Santo Domingo is a territory with a mix heritage : Elements of the native Taíno people, Spanish colonists, and African slaves are find in  what we call now  the Dominican culture. 

The inhabitants speak spanish , we can also notice that machistmo and the catholicism is also an heritage of the spanish colonial period.

Furthermore, it is noticeable that some of  the local plates can also be  find in other caribbean countries.

  • There are some of the most Popular  (or well known) dominican artists at the moment : Dania Ramirez (actress), Zoe Saldana (actress) ,

  • KatDeluna (singer) , Fabolous (rapper) , Natti Natasha (singer) 

  • Romeo Santos - bachata singer, he is a  famous figure in the Dominican Republic
    Prince Royce ( bachata singer)

Sport : Baseball  is one of the most famous cultural activities

Artistic creation : Pottery , paintings, basketry, rocking chairs are popular

Music and dancing : Merengue is the most popular  music in the Dominican Republic, but bachata is also very popular. 

Instrument 100 % dominican : The güira, The güiro, Tambora is a type of drum made  with the goatskin.

And finally, there is the event that should not be missed : Teh Cranival ! The latter take place each   february (Carnival has been celebrated in the Dominican Republic since 1510, during the slavery period).
